Pennsylvania English strives to present the best work in all areas of English studies including poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, and critical essays. We welcome submissions from writers anywhere in the world. If you are a writer and have an interest in English studies, this may be the place for you.

Pennsylvania English Call for Critical Essay Submissions

The deadline for receipt of submissions is September 1, 2023  

* Submission guidelines:    *

 Submit a critical paper on any aspect of English Studies of ten to twenty (8-20) pages (2500-6000 words)

* Please use footnotes.

* Because we rely on blind submission, peer-reviewed  judging, do not include your name  anywhere on the manuscript. Manuscripts that contain identifiable  information on the critical essay will be rejected.

* Do not send simultaneous submissions or previously published work.

* Follow current MLA guidelines for critical essay submissions and  formatting. Be sure your article has a proper works cited page, and make  sure your citation conforms to the most current guidelines.

*  For all submissions, please include a brief bio for the contributors'  page. Be sure to include your name, address, phone number, email  address, institutional affiliation (if you have one), the title of your  critical essay, and any other relevant information. We will edit if  necessary for space. In addition to the current call for papers, essays on any topic relating to literature and literary productions (musical, video, etc.)  are welcome.

* For all submissions, please include a brief bio for the contributors'  page. Be sure to include your name, address, phone number, email address, institutional affiliation (if you have one), the title of your  essay, and any other relevant information. We will edit if necessary for  space.  

* For the current volume, the editors are interested in fact-based, narrative nonfiction.  

* Because we rely on blind submission judging, do not include your name anywhere on the manuscript. 

* Do not send previously published work! Contributors should only submit one piece of creative nonfiction per volume.  Contributors will be notified of acceptance status via email at the  completion of the reading period.  Payment upon publication is two copies of Pennsylvania English.

* There is a limit of five poems per submission.     

* Do not send previously published work!

Pennsylvania English Call for Fiction Submissions

Submission guidelines:    

* For all submissions, please include a brief bio for the contributors'  page. Be sure to include your name, address, phone number, email  address, institutional affiliation (if you have one), the title of your  short story, and any other relevant information. We will edit if  necessary for space.      

* The editors are interested in well  crafted, literary short stories. No genre work, please, unless character  is at the fore of the writing.    

* Because we rely on blind submission judging, do not include your name anywhere on the manuscript.     

* Do not send previously published work! Contributors should only submit one piece of fiction per volume.    

Contributors will be notified of acceptance status via email at the  completion of the reading period.    

Payment upon publication is two copies of Pennsylvania English.
